Household, Afumaţi, Ilfov, early 20th century

Located in a plain area, 15 km away from Bucharest, the town of Afumați is in the category of the types of type, with houses arranged on both sides of the main road, as well as the numerous streets that make it. The main occupations of the inhabitants of the commune were agriculture and animal husbandry, and the vicinity of the capital and the intensification of the urbanization process of its neighboring areas have also created the opportunity of a developed commercial activity.

The household of the Dobrițoiu family in Afumați, build in the 20s (and renovated in 1939 according to the inscription executed in embossed plaster, on the left side of the main entry in the house) was donated to the Village Museum in 2011.

The ensemble is composed of the house, stables for buffaloes, corn barley and summer kitchen. The construction technique is specific to the plains and plateaus areas, with the walls of the woven braid on the forks of the acacia or oak, with the ground gluing. All the roofs initially had tile cover, only the house being subsequently modernized by a sheet cover. The floors of the rooms are glued with clay, the ceilings made of shaved shirts (except the kitchen), and the interior walls are glued with clay and varnished.
The plan of the house follows the specificity of the Danube Plain, taking place horizontally and comprising the tent-through which the access to the house is made-, the clean room (towards the road), the living room and the kitchen. The heating system is represented by the brick stoves present in the living room and in the kitchen. Inside, the furniture of city influence and the wipes on the walls are distinguished, which give a distinct note to the living space.
