The woman in the universe of the traditional village
"The woman is the fifth season, in which nature rests, remembering all the flowers of spring, all the nightingales of summer, all the grapes of autumn and all the snows of winter." It is the definition given to the woman by one of the greatest Romanian poets: Grigore Vieru.
Over time, Romanian women have experienced real tragedies: they lost their husbands and fathers in the First World War, they ended up in prison, they experienced the dramas of the Second World War, they were thrown into communist prisons, they were at the Canal, they lost everything countless times and managed to reinvent themselves and start over each time. But the most important thing: they knew not to lose their inner beauty. They have linked their names to major medical breakthroughs, the first parachute jumps, the first law school enrollment, the first 10 in gymnastics, and much, much more. They wrote histories and were with their husbands when the Great Union was achieved. Each time, they proudly wore our popular costume and made it famous. Beauty, grace, wisdom.
The 20 portraits gathered under the title Woman in the universe of the traditional village are exhibited in the hall of the National Museum of the Dimitrie Gusti Village and you will be able to admire them from March 1-31, 2024.
