World Bee Day was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 2017, at the proposal of the Association of Beekeepers of the Republic of Slovenia to highlight the importance of bees for humanity and to draw attention to the need to protect them, as well as other pollinators . The chosen date represents the birthday of Anton Jana (May 20, 1734 – September 13, 1773), considered a pioneer and an important expert of modern beekeeping.
