Saint Dumitru Fair 2024
The National Museum of the "Dimitrie Gusti" Village organizes, between October 26 and October 27, 2024, several events dedicated to the celebration of Saint Demetrius, the spiritual protector of the museum, an occasion to commemorate Professor Dimitrie Gusti, the museum's mentor.
The celebration of St. Demetrius marks the last and most significant celebration of autumn, which, according to the pastoral calendar, represents the beginning of winter. In the popular tradition, Saint Dumitru dries the plants and defoliates the forest, being the one who unlocks the winter. It is the moment when the heat enters the ground and the frost begins to show its fangs.
Just as in the old days this celebration was greeted with resounding prayers, commemorations with cakes and games, in the same way in the current Fair organized in the National Museum of the Village there will be recitals by folk ensembles, tarafuri and soloists of Romanian folk music from all areas of the country, performances of dances and songs from the folklore of ethnic minorities and, of course, the indispensable fair with traditional Romanian products in which craftsmen from the whole country will take part. There will be no shortage of products from traditional gastronomy - cakes, pies, meat products, cheeses, gingerbread, organic products - honey, fruits and vegetables, jams and seasonal jams.
