Saint Dumitru Fair 2025
The National Museum of the "Dimitrie Gusti" Village invites you from October 24 to October 26, 2025, to the events dedicated to the celebration of Saint Demetrius, the spiritual protector of the museum, an occasion to commemorate Professor Dimitrie Gusti, the mentor of the museum.
The celebration of St. Demetrius marks the last and most significant celebration of autumn, which, according to the pastoral calendar, represents the beginning of winter. In the popular tradition, Saint Dumitru dries the plants and defoliates the forest, being the one who unlocks the winter. It is the moment when the heat enters the ground and the frost begins to show its fangs.
Just as in the old days this celebration was greeted with resounding prayers, commemorations with cakes and games, in the same way, in the current Fair organized in the National Museum of the Village there will be famous recitals by Romanian folk music soloists from all areas of the country, such as: Ion Crețeanu (Voineasa, Olt county), Ilie Caraș (Bucovina), Cornelia Tihon (Bucharest), Gabriel Dumitru (Pitesti, Argeș county), Petronela Axintioaei (Flămânzi, Botoșani county), Bianca Gheorghe and the Folk EnsembleThe codrulet(Găesti, Dâmbovița county), show of dances and songs from Greek folklore supported by the Folkloric EnsembleKymaticaof the Greek Union - Ploiesti and an extraordinary recital - Marius Mihalache (drums) and Arabela Nicolau (voice).
Also, on Saturday October 25 this year, the first edition of the National Museology Conference "Ethnomuzeologica - Georgeta Stoica" will take place.
And last but not least, craftsmen from all over the country are waiting for you at the well-known fair with traditional Romanian products. There will be no shortage of products from traditional gastronomy - cakes, pies, meat products, cheeses, gingerbread, organic products - honey, fruits and vegetables, jams and seasonal jams.
